I’ve contemplated ripping out every inch of carpet in our home, piece by piece. Tossing it’s shag to a heaping pile of threads, crushed crackers, torn stickers, and pet hair. Thrusting my husband’s utility knife into the air with a wild gleam of success and rage in my eyes!

If you’ve ever pictured yourself in that scenario too, let me share few methods to refresh carpet before your primitive instincts take over!

Seriously, I’ve had my fair share of pet hair and spilled milk on the carpet. One of the biggest challenges to living a more natural lifestyle is cleaning the home.

Can you guess? What smells amazing, cleans without toxic chemicals, and lifts odors instead of masking them?

Essential oils and baking soda make the perfect solution to keeping carpets fresh and looking new! Orange essential oil, also called sweet orange oil works magic on odors and tough stains!

Derived from the outer peel of the common orange, it like most citrus oils acts as a natural degreaser and combats stains without harsh chemicals.

I’ve used it this natural carpet stain remover on new and old stains with great success! Combine it with one my favorite essential oils – clove and you might actually be glad you didn’t get your husband’s utility knife out.

Supplies

1/2 cup baking soda

1/4 teaspoon clove essential oil

1/4 teaspoon orange essential oil

1 airtight container, 4 ounces

How to Make Winter Refresh Carpet Powder

Combine 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon clove essential oil, and 1/4 teaspoon orange essential oil in a small mixing bowl. Stir until all baking soda clumps have dissolved. Pour refresh carpet powder into an airtight container. (This is just like the shaker top jar I use.) Yields: 1/2 cup

How To Refresh Carpet

Start picking up any debris like stickers, crayons, or toddler snacks that are too large for the vacuum. Then treat any stains with natural carpet stain remover. Once dry, use a window squeegee to scrape the top of carpet and rugs to remove hidden pet hair.

Next, sprinkle Winter Refresh Carpet Powder over rugs and carpet and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes before vacuuming to reduce odors and release the warm fresh scent of clove and orange essential oils.

      Thanks Bryan! They make a big difference, but carpets still need to be steamed cleaned a few times a year to keep them looking great for years to come.
