Why I Use Essential Oils Everyday
I began my journey into natural living 10 years ago, when my husband and I still newlyweds, adopted a puppy. This was quite a big step for us and when we brought here home I began to worry about all the harsh chemicals I was using to clean would hurt her. After a little research it turns out they were hurting all three of us. It turns out the ingredients of average household cleaners have been linked to asthma, cancer, reproductive disorders, hormone disruption and neurotoxicity. (source)
Fast forward 8 years later and we were expecting a baby girl. I went through our home with a fine toothed comb looking for anything that might harm her. Thinking about our little baby taking her 1st bath pushed me to look closer at all the bath and body products I was using. What was I putting on my skin? According to EWG’s Skin Deep Database subtle damage to developing bodies may lead to disease later in life. And pound for pound, children are exposed to more contaminants in air, water, food, and personal care products than adults. Immature organ systems are often less capable of fending off chemical assaults.
What did I do? Nothing more than diving right into making my own natural bath and body products with essential oils. Since then I’ve been making everything from face wash to kitchen cleaners. Not only do we save money by not purchasing all those products at the store, we also live in a chemical free home. And that is quite possibly one of the best gifts I can ever give my family.
