5 Ways to Style Your Instagram

1. LIFE-STYLED VISUAL STORY

If you love to decorate your home then this style will come naturally. Start by choose an item you would like to highlight, just like a vocal point in a room. Next, gather props and arrange them to create movement and tell a story. You may recall seeing photos on Instagram that look as if items just perfectly fell out of a market bag onto the kitchen table. They tell story of a handpicking fresh produce from the local farmers market. Considering pairing items that fit a theme or color palette. Keep rearranging items until you have a sense of balance within the frame.

2. TRADITIONAL GRID

This style is all about balanced composition. Start with selecting an odd number of items. Next, lay items out on invisible straight lines within a square format. Theory has it your brain will try to automatically pair things up and when it can’t due to the odd number, it is will keep moving through the composition. This phenomenon makes a photo very pleasing to the eye.

3. SPACE FOR ADDING TEXT

This is an extension of the Lifestyle Visual Story. Start with the steps in that style then either remove or push items into the corners or edges of your frame. Thus intentionally creating an empty space in the photo for adding text after. I recommend adding text in Photoshop with an Instagram template. It’s a simple attractive way to get a message across your Instagram feed.

4. OPEN SPACE

This style is great way to add fresh clean space to your Instagram feed. Start with a plain background such as a white foam board, marble counter top, or basic linen. Next choose one item as your main focus. Then shoot your lay flat with a lot of open space around the focus item. You’ll be surprised at the bold statement an Open Space lay flat makes.
