On the Coast of Big Sur

The Coast of Big Sur was breathtaking!

On the Coast of Big Sur

One of the best ways to see the coast in Big Sur is from the cliffs. You really get a unique vantage point for photographing the coast versus on the beach. With a telephoto lens, you can hone in on details like the little group of birds hanging on the cliff side in the photo below. The water and skies were so blue along the coast.

Although beautiful to the eye, it can wash out the warm hues in a photograph. I’ve included a quick tutorial below for warming up blues with overlays.

Yes, we had to take a few detours and didn’t get to see the whole thing. It was incredible anyway!

      1. Well, that is a bit of a bummer, but all the more reason to go back. 😀 The pictures of the slide looked crazy, but from what I have read it is quite common.

  2. This part of the USA is the most fascinating to me. So many things to see and to do. Love your photos as well. Thanks for linking up with “Through My Lens”

  3. I love your work. I am a California girl (though living now in the PNW) and you captured the blue Pacific beautifully!

Awe, thank you Carol – it is a stunning place!

  4. I have to say you have been doing a fantastic job in showing California coast with all her charms. I should drive down the coast more.

    1. lifenreflection says:

Thank you, it is the most beautiful drive!

  5. Beautiful shots! It’s absolutely gorgeous there! 🙂

      Thanks Fiona!

  6. That first pic is really stunning, in the true sense of the word. I caught my breath!! As for mine, the lights may not seem like a photo of the seasons but it’s Winter in Sydney and we all count down in the chilly weather for the lights to brighten the evenings….

    1. lifenreflection says:

Thank you Lydia!!! We do the same here in here winter months of December and January.

  7. Those are great shots of the white water around the rocks

Thanks Molly, it’s all about shutter speed!

  8. What fantastic photos with great color! It’s a shame that the camera never quite captures the beauty but gets pretty close 🙂

    1. lifenreflection says:

Thanks Betty, it’s due to not quite having a the right white balance. I should have brought a white balance card on my trip.

  9. My favorite places are on the California coast. The Big Sur is gorgeous and I loved going on 3 tours at San Simeon.

Mine too Carol, it is gorgeous!
