If you’re a regular here, you know I love making soap. And I have made a lot of unique recipes, loofah soap, wine soap, even soap on a rope, but I’ve never made whipped soap.

I kept seeing those fluffy jars of soap pop up in handmade gift guides and wondered… is it really as dreamy as it looks? Turns out, yes. Absolutely yes.

If you’ve never experienced lathering up with whipped soap, you’re in for a treat. It’s unlike any other soap — light, airy, and so soft it feels like bathing in a cloud. Honestly, once you learn how to make whipped soap, it might be the softest, fluffiest soap you’ll ever create.

Because each ingredient in this recipe is handpicked to gently cleanse, hydrate, and soften your skin, leaving it velvety-smooth. Plus, the essential oils I added to the soap smell like lemon pound cake fresh from the oven!

What’s possibly the best part? There’s no active lye, no heating, and no waiting for it to cure. All of which makes it an easy, no-fuss soap-making project that even kids can help with.

So, why not whip up a batch for a springtime pick-me-up? Or create gifts in a jar, perfect for Easter, Teacher’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Birthday celebrations!

Whipped Soap vs Bar Soap

At first glance, it looks almost too pretty to be soap at all. Frosting-like swirls, pillowy texture, and soft peaks tucked into little jars. How could this be soap?

Whipped soap is exactly what it sounds like — soap that has been whipped with a foaming bath whip base until it becomes light, airy, and fluffy. Instead of a solid, firm bar, it creates a soft, mousse-like cleanser that scoops easily from a jar and melts into a rich lather when it touches water.

Until you indulge in a cloud-like bathing experience with the buttery softness of whipped soap, it’s hard to imagine how different it feels.

Here’s why you’ll fall in love with homemade whipped soap!

  • Gentle Cleansing – Cleanse and refresh your skin without it feeling tight or stripped of moisture, compared to most bar soaps.
  • Rich Creamy Lather – Envelope your skin in a cloud of pampering softness as the fluffy soap transforms into a luxurious foam.
  • Versatility – You can use this DIY whipped soap as body wash, hand soap, or SHAVE CREAM. It’s super timesaving!
  • Dreamy Texture – The soft, pillowy texture glides effortlessly across your skin for a bathing experience that feels more like self-care than routine.

How Do You Make Homemade Whipped Soap?

When it comes to how to make whipped soap with a dreamy texture, you’ve got to stack the ingredients like this!

Bath Butter Base

This DIY whipped soap starts with a foaming bath butter base, commonly known as a whipped soap base. No lye, hot oils, or gloves needed when you start with this!

Coconut Oil

As I share in the Simple Skin re-Boot, coconut oil is an intense moisturizer made of saturated fats. It melts and absorbs quickly into the skin, offering a plethora of benefits.

Honey

Honey is a dream in soap! Among other benefits, its humectant properties attract and bind moisture to the skin. This boosts the moisturizing power of soap and increases the lather!

Shea Butter

Shea butter is one of the most nutrient-dense body butters out there. Incorporating refined or unrefined shea butter into the soap creates a buttery softness in handmade whipped soap.

Packed with the best natural ingredients, it’s easy to see why your skin will feel soft, cleansed, and renewed after one use!

Not only that, whipped soap can be as easily customized as melt and pour soap! So, you can create a variety of whipped soaps by making small changes or additions to the recipe.

Swap shea butter for mango butter or trade coconut oil for apricot oil. So, you can make this whipped soap recipe your own with ingredients you have on hand.

What’s The Best Way To Store Whipped Soap?

When it comes to homemade bath products, the best way to store them is always in an airtight glass container. The jars I used were La Fermière Oui yogurt jars. Wrapped in adorable flowers, they were just too cute not to reuse!

I repurposed Oui yogurt jars into beeswax candles, too! La Fermière says after your last spoonful, create, reuse, and recycle. All it takes is a little rubbing alcohol to remove the glue residue under the label after washing each jar.

But you can also purchase a set of glass yogurt jars if you’re not a fan of yogurt.
Add one of these tight-fitting lids designed for the yogurt jars and store them away from heat and direct sunlight.

Gift In A Jar DIY Whipped Soap Recipe

This unique soap recipe creates an airy whipped soap infused with moisturizing ingredients and the uplifting aroma of sweet vanilla lemon cream. And it’s fairly easy! All it requires to make whipped soap is a mixer and a few ingredients.

And once you’ve filled each jar- it’s ready to use! Unlike cold or hot processed soap, there is zero curing time required. So, you can make this light and fluffy whipped soap recipe in minutes, which doubles as a charming gift in a jar.

Let’s Get Started

Here’s What You’ll Need

Whipped Soap Ingredients:

How To Make Whipped Soap

1. Scoop ten ounces of the foaming bath butter base into a medium glass mixing bowl. (I recommend using a digital kitchen scale for precise measurements.) Whip the base for three to five minutes with a handheld mixer. As it fluffs up, it will get easier to whip.

2. When the foaming base is whipped and fluffy, add 2 ounces of shea butter, 2 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil, and ¼ teaspoon of honey. Whip these ingredients into the base for another 3 to 5 minutes with the mixer. The soap will expand and nearly fill the bowl.

3. Next, add 25 drops of vanilla essential oil and 25 drops of lemon essential oil into the soap, whipping for 2 minutes.

4. You can simply scoop the mixture into your container, or, for a beautiful twist, insert a 413 piping tip into a piping bag and scoop the whipped soap into it. (Don’t have a piping bag? Use a gallon-size Ziploc bag and snip a small hole in the tip of a corner.)

5. Squeeze firmly from the top of the bag and twist down toward the opening of the piping tip. Pipe the soap into each glass yogurt jar in a circular motion. This will create the appearance of whipped frosting or soft serve ice cream!

6. It’s okay to overfill a jar, but you’ll want to place a lid (these are the lids I use) on top of the yogurt jars to store. If you’re sharing these as a gift in a jar, tie each jar with twine and add a mini wooden spoon. And make sure to include a lid to extend the shelf life.

3 Ways To Use Whipped Soap

Using whipped soap is the easiest way to turn your bath into a spa treatment.
