One way to do this is by incorporating daily rituals that not only benefit the planet but also nourish your mind and body.
For me, slow living is about pressing pause on a rushed lifestyle and turning everyday tasks into meaningful daily rituals.

Creating A Daily Ritual With A DIY Coffee Scrub
I’ve learned it’s often small yet consistent choices that make the most impact when it comes to slowing living and self-care. That’s why I make a simple three-ingredient DIY coffee scrub for body care to start my day. It beckons me to pause and enjoy the moment while caring for myself.
I’ve been hooked on sugar scrubs since the first scrub I made to soften my feet. Lip scrubs, face scrubs, scalp scrubs, hand scrubs, you name it – I have a scrub for everything! And creating sugar scrubs with simple ingredients like organic coffee beans is just the thing to start the day with intention and self-care.
By making your own coffee scrub, you can control the ingredients and reduce waste from store-bought products. Plus, the process of making the scrub can be a meditative and rewarding experience.
So, if you’re no stranger to the wake-up call of a steaming cup of coffee, just wait till you try it on your skin in the morning!

Are Coffee Scrubs Good For Your Skin?
“Are coffee scrubs good for your skin?” Absolutely! Coffee scrubs act as a natural exfoliant that helps to unclog pores, slough off dead skin cells, and improve circulation. This results in a smoother, brighter complexion.
And it’s so simple to make! Here are the coffee scrub benefits you can gain from the ingredients in my DIY coffee scrub recipe:
IKEA’s medium-dark roast coffee ground with notes of dark chocolate and dried fruit is packed full of benefits for the skin. Sustainably harvested and Rainforest Alliance Certified, it’s better for us and the planet.
When you apply it to your skin, you can soak in antioxidants with the anti-aging and detoxifying coffee benefits that help to reduce inflammation and protect the skin from free radicals. Not to mention, it is a natural astringent that makes the skin tighter and firmer – all the more helping to reveal a glowing complexion.
Natural Raw Cane Sugar
Combine coffee grounds with natural raw cane sugar, an excellent source of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid. It is also known as (AHAs) which are commonly included in skin care products to gently penetrate the skin. That is coupled with the ability to break down the bonds of dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover to reveal a new layer of skin.
Organic Cold-Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil
You can’t beat organic cold-pressed virgin coconut oil’s moisturizing abilities. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamins that help to hydrate and nourish the skin, leaving it soft and supple.
Combining sugar granules, ground coffee, and coconut oil scrub benefits makes for a powerful and effective DIY coffee scrub that’s gentle enough for all skin types.
And I love the fact that every ingredient is food grade and produced in a way that benefits the farmers, the consumers, and the environment.
When you prepare this beauty treatment at home with sustainable ingredients and tools, you embrace the hidden potential of your everyday tasks to make a difference in the future of our planet.
Preparing A Daily Ritual:
To create a sustainable daily ritual, it’s essential to choose ingredients and tools that are not only sustainable but also align with your values. Additionally, it’s helpful to design a dedicated space for practicing the ritual. In our fast-paced lives, it can be easy to rush through daily tasks without taking the time to care for ourselves.
However, by prioritizing self-care, we can reduce stress and cultivate a sense of calm in our daily lives.
The bathroom is a particularly intimate space where we begin and end each day, making it an ideal place to incorporate daily rituals. By transforming your bathroom into a serene and functional space, you can create a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Our master bathroom, featured in the commercial I was filmed in for IKEA, is a prime example of how a well-designed bathroom can offer stress relief in every corner. From a candle-lit bath to a steam shower and natural beauty tools to a soft robe and matching slippers, each element contributes to a sense of self-care and zen that can be easily integrated into your daily routine.
By embracing the concept of slow living, we can find joy in the simple things and create daily rituals that enrich our lives. Why not start by whipping up a simple coffee scrub to care for yourself while the bathtub fills?
