When the world turns everything pumpkin spice on September first lather up with this creamy, pumpkin spice soap recipe! Here’s how to make it with melt and pour soap.

How do you make homemade pumpkin soap?

This homemade pumpkin soap begins with an all-natural goat milk melt and pour soap base. If you’re unfamiliar with melt and pour soap, it’s a simplified way to make soap without handling lye. A soap base can be melted in the microwave in mere minutes without any cure time.

In fact, it’s ready to use once it’s fully cooled – much faster than weeks in comparison to traditional soap making.

Goat milk was the first soap base I fell in love with. It has a great lather and is nourishing for the skin. If there’s one thing I love most about goat milk soap is that it’s so easy to make gorgeous soaps with it.

Why? You see, the base is the perfect white canvas for adding color to soap. And it has the ability to let anything you add to it suspend or, in other words, float in the soap.

Real pumpkin pie spice is added to the soap for contrasting color and as an exfoliant. Ground pumpkin spice provides a similar effect as exfoliating with colloidal oatmeal, a popular soap ingredient for dry skin.

And it’s just one of the ways this homemade soap is deliciously scented with natural ingredients. Check out my favorite creative soap additives.

What can I use if I don’t have pumpkin spice?

If you don’t have pumpkin spice in your kitchen pantry, you can make your own! My mother taught this recipe many years ago, and it’s published in our Bittersweet Walnut Grove book series Fall Thyme. I’m happy to share it with you here!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Use it immediately, or pour the spice blend into an airtight container, label it, and store it with your other spices.

For a wonderful boost of scent, we’ll add the above spices in essential oil form to the soap recipe as well. However, you can exchange the blend of essential oil with a natural fragrance oil too. Just make sure it’s safe for the skin and always follow the directions on the label for the correct amount of fragrance per pound of soap. This pumpkin pie soap fragrance is a great choice because it’s phthalate-free.

After we’ve added pumpkin spice, colorant, and scent, we’ll pour it all into a silicone mold. I’ve found silicone molds make releasing homemade soap bars a breeze! This is the oval soap mold I used. It comes in a set of 3 silicone soap molds to make oval, rectangle, and square soaps, which is basically every shape you need.

With your soap-making supplies gathered, it’s time to make this dreamy fall soap!
