5 Ways To Use Room Sprays For Coziness

Beyond air freshening, room sprays work well throughout the entire home. Because this recipe relies on a simple, quick-evaporating base, it’s gentle on everyday fabrics, throw blankets, and upholstered furnishings without leaving sticky residues behind. Here are five simple ways to spread coziness with a quick mist!

Entryways & Mudrooms: Spritz coat closets, rug runners, and shoe nooks to welcome guests with warm spice notes.

Bedrooms: Lightly spritz throw blankets, duvet covers, or pillows between washes for a subtle, cozy scent that gives your bedroom an instant refresh.

Seasonal Decor: Give faux greenery, dried wreaths, moss balls, or fabric pumpkins a scent boost.

Home Offices: Keep a bottle at your desk to reset the space during work tasks. Give woven baskets or drawer liners in your office a mist for lasting fragrance.

Family Rooms & Cozy Nooks: Refresh curtains, cloth couches, and decorative cushions to invite cozy moments spent together.

Step 1: Choose a Room Spray Base

When it comes to choosing a room spray base, there are a few options that help disperse the scent evenly without leaving a sticky residue behind.

Rooms Spray Base Options:

  • Unscented Witch Hazel: An accessible choice, this organic witch hazel base mixes smoothly with plant-based oils.
  • Scented Witch Hazel & Hydrosols: Lavender witch hazel or rosemary hydrosol can add a subtle undertone to warm blends.
  • Alcohol: High-proof or organic sugarcane alcohol helps the fragrance evaporate quickly in the air for a lighter mist.

No matter if you’re making a bottle for your kitchen, bathrooms, or family room, I highly recommend each of these. After you’ve selected yours, it’s time to choose the scent!

Step 3: Bottle It Up

Bring warmth and comfort to every room with these easy steps to create a homemade room spray.

How To Make A Room Spray

  1. Place a frosted glass 3.4-ounce spray bottle on a digital scale. Stick a mini funnel inside the bottle and tare the weight.
  2. Pour 2.5 ounces of your room spray base into the bottle through the funnel. I used this organic witch hazel base.
  3. Blend a total of 25 to 30 ml of essential oils to the base. (I added 7 ml of orange, 10 ml of pine, 5 ml of sage, and 3 ml of nutmeg to create the Warm Hearth blend to a glass beaker.)
  4. Pour the scent mix into the mini funnel inside the bottle. Remove the funnel and return the bamboo nozzle, secure, and shake to combine. (I also filled more mist bottles with the Sweet Maple recipe.)

Shake before use and spritz into the air to refresh any room. 1-2 sprays it all you need per use.

Step 4: Add A Room Spray Label

Nothing helps create new holiday memories like crafting homemade gifts. Follow these steps to apply cute labels to your bottles. They’re an easy way to make a quick, beautiful gift for neighbors, teachers, or hostesses during the cozy season.

  • Print these giftable room spray labels from the Simple Living Library on 2×3 printable sticker paper. For the best quality, choose letter size, custom 100% scale and semi-gloss or glossy photo paper in your printing settings. (I print labels with my Epson Eco Printer.)
  • Then give your glass mist bottles a quick wipe to make sure the surface is clean and dry.
  • Gently press the label onto the front of the bottle, smoothing it down from the center to ensure a crisp, bubble-free finish.
