Chocolate Mint Nourishing Heel Salve Recipe

CHOCOLATE MINT NOURISHING HEEL SALVE

Winter wreaks havoc on nearly everyone’s feet and especially the heels, mine included. I’ve tried countless lotions and several products labeled to resolve cracked heels in past years. Most failed and some seemed like they were helping but the results always wore off before days end. I started reading about beeswax salves and decided to formulate my own to nourish and repair cracked heels.

While beeswax alone is very healing and locks in moisture, I choose to add cocoa butter. High in vitamin E, cocoa butter is a rich moisturizer.  I also included one of my all-time favorites, coconut oil for its moisturizing properties. In addition to apricot oil that absorbs quickly into the skin while providing deep moisturizing benefits.

Lastly, I added vitamin E oil and tea tree essential oil. Combined with cocoa butter in its pure non-deodorized form, this salve has a wonderful chocolate mint aroma.

You may just want to eat it, my toddler certainly did. She kept asking for more on her hands the first time I made it, only to find her licking them after!

SUPPLIES FOR CHOCOLATE MINT NOURISHING HEEL SALVE

Chocolate Mint Nourishing Heel Salve

¼ cup cocoa butter

7 ½ teaspoons beeswax pastilles

½ cup unrefined coconut oil

⅛ cup apricot kernel oil

½ teaspoon vitamin E oil

6 drops tea tree essential oil

6-ounce metal tin

MAKE DIY CHOCOLATE MINT NOURISHING HEEL SALVE

Using a double boiler, combine cocoa butter and beeswax. Heat over a soft boil until melted, stirring often with a whisk. Add coconut oil and apricot oil. Whisk over heat until melted. Remove from heat and pour in vitamin E oil. Whisk well while adding drops of essential oil. Pour salve mixture into the tin. Allow to completely cool before placing the lid on the tin, approximately 2 hours.

Chocolate Mint Nourishing Salve will be soft to the touch when set. Apply to dry, cracked, or rough areas on feet. Use it as often as needed. I recommend applying it before bed. Slip on a pair of socks too and let it work like magic while you sleep!
