Going Natural – Where to Start with Zero Waste Skin Care

I’ll be the first to admit the undertaking of switching your bath and body products to all-natural and zero waste can be daunting and expensive. Especially if you try to do it all at once!

When I began the process a handful of years ago, I found it best to replace products as I used them up. So, I finished what I currently had while I planned to create a natural alternative.

Although, when I came to this recipe I found myself using double the amount of my regular body wash from a popular American bath and body store. So, I could make this one sooner! I loved all the creative fragrance combinations they came up, and I worried I couldn’t make a natural body wash that would be as fragrant as theirs.

If you’re feeling the same you’re in for a treat with this zero waste DIY body wash recipe!

I.S.O of Great DIY Body Wash

In search of a powerful yet soothing combination, I tried a few things but each either smelled like a household cleaner or didn’t stay fragrant when applied.

Then when browsing the aisles of Target I saw a hand soap with a chamomile fragrance. It had a divine scent! I quickly put the lid back on the hand soap and finished my regular shopping to stop at my local family-owned vitamin store for chamomile essential oil. Much to my delight, they had a half an ounce bottle and the owner said it was the best!

I couldn’t agree more when I combined it with lavender essential oil. Both known for their calming and nourishing benefits for the skin.  It was the powerful fragrant combination I was searching for!

Chamomile adds an almost fruity scent to lavender’s soft floral fragrance creating a relaxing DIY body wash recipe. It really is the best!

    1. Two of my favorite fragrances! I am so glad I found your recipes, I can’t wait to try all of these.

      1. lifenreflection says:

        Mine to Kelly, thanks!

    2. I’m definitely interested in trying out this recipe, it looks so nourishing! Question: do I need to use fractionated coconut oil or can I use regular coconut oil? I usually have Trader Joe’s Organic Triple Filtered Coconut Oil on-hand and curious if I could use that. Thanks!

      1. lifenreflection says:

Jessica, it needs to be fractionated coconut oil. The other is to thick and won’t come out of a pump bottle. Look in the beauty or vitamin section at Trader Joes or Whole Foods you can find it there from Aura Cacia!

    3. Can I mix some shea butter into this for extra moisture?

      1. lifenreflection says:

Yes, you could add a small amount Lindsey

    4. If honey won’t mix with other ingredients or stay emulsified, what do you suggest to add or use to eliminate this problem?

      1. lifenreflection says:

I’ve read Decyl Glucoside is a commonly used natural alternative to Polysorbate 20. I simply shake my body wash before use.
