How Do You Make Your Own Bath Soak For A Blue Moon Ritual?

Creating your own bath soak for a blue moon ritual is so much fun! Brought to height by the best-selling book titled: Moon Bath: Bathing Rituals and Recipes for Relaxation and Vitality, authors Dakota Hills and Sierra Brashear, combined the natural rhythms of nature with bathing rituals, journaling prompts, and affirmations organized by the moon cycle.

All it takes is a bit of planning and ingredients as unique as the blue moon itself, to create your own soak!

Why is it called a blue moon?

When you hear someone say, “Once in a blue moon …” you know they are talking about something rare… a blue moon is special because it is the “extra” moon in a season with four full moons. This usually only happens every two-and-a-half years.

NASA Science

Super Blue Moons are the rarest of the rarest. As Time Magazine noted, scientists predict we won’t see another until 2037!

Use a lunar calendar ← the illustrations on this one are beautiful. Or check out the Farmer’s Almanac Moon Phases Calendar online to find the next blue moon.

How Does It Work?

Wait for the moon to rise then begin pouring a warm bath. Use a wooden scoop to add 1 tablespoon to the warm flowing bath water. Add an additional tablespoon as desired for a deeper blue color.

Fill the tub and turn off the water before sinking under celestial waters. Immersing yourself in the rare energy of the blue moon might be just the thing you need to reflect, withdraw, and turn inward.

The world is constantly turning shifting and changing. Like everything else, so too are we. Find your place amongst these changes and appreciate where you are right now in life.

Release the transformation power of a rare blue moon and seek growth from within.

Supplies

Bag of Epsom Salt

Epsom Salt

Epsom salts known for their exceptional mineral content, are a “no-brainer” for releasing tension and negative energy in the bath.

Blue Poppy Seeds

If you thought blue poppy seeds were included just for color, you’re wrong. They add a gentle exfoliant to the bath soak that helps shed dead skin cells.

Blue Butterfly Pea Flower

It’s the secret of a blue moon bath that colors bathwater naturally! They aren’t just meant for butterflies; blue butterfly pea flower petals are a spectacular way to add natural color to your bath and body DIYs.

Gently grinding them with a mortar and pestle can help release their potent color (see how in the video). You can also add 1 teaspoon of blue butterfly pea powder to the recipe to create an extra deep blue color.

Either way, you can soak up all the benefits of blue pea flower:

  • Helps maintain elasticity
  • Soothes and reduces redness
  • Supports collagen structure
  • Improves moisture retention

Whole Goat Milk Powder

Reduce inflammation, break down dead skin cells, moisturize, and hydrate with goat milk powder in the bath. Yes, we can do it all!

Blue Cornflower

When applied topically, blue cornflower can boost the skin’s overall appearance. As noted by Maskey these vibrantly colored blue flowers can be used on the skin to help cool, tone, and absorb impurities.
It retains a deep blue color in bath soaks and homemade soap, too!
