Embrace the hygge lifestyle with these seven DIY bath soak hygge ideas for each day of the week. They are a comforting hygge example anyone can make!

I am well acquainted with the bleakness of winter after living in the northern Midwest for many years. The frigid temperatures, icy roadways, and near-constant snowfall lasted for six months of the year. A northern winter could make anyone feel deflated.

But, when I came upon the hygge lifestyle, I was instantly intrigued, and what I learned changed how I felt and approached winter.

What is a hygge lifestyle?

If you haven’t heard of hygge (pronounced hue-gah), hygge, by definition, is the Danish way of creating a warm atmosphere for rest and reflection.

It’s about enjoying the good things in life with good people. While there isn’t a direct English equivalent for the word hygge, it’s a way of finding coziness and happiness in life’s everyday pleasures. Which is more of a philosophy, and it inspired me to embrace winter in a way I never thought I could.

How do I bring hygge into my life?

There are a number of ways to bring hygge into your life. But, as shared in my article titled, Creating a Sanctuary to Hygge, in the magazine The Cozy Issue by Bella Grace Vol 2, a relaxing aromatherapy bath has got to be THE perfect de-stressor after maneuvering the icy sidewalks and snowy roads.

I’ve been making bath and body products for years, and from my experience, I can say homemade bath soak recipes are one the most rewarding to make! Just thinking about a long soak in a hot bath can help get me through a cold winter day.

How do you make a good bath soak?

The warmth of a soak in the bathtub can be highlighted by adding salts to relax the muscles, milk to exfoliate, honey or carrier oils to moisturize, or herbs or essential oils to calm or energize.

These ingredients can be added straight to the bath water or mixed together into a DIY bath soak that can be scooped into running bath water.

I find combining the ingredients into a jar is more convenient than individually adding ingredients. If you’re looking for what ingredients to include for specific needs like better sleep or dry skin, then check out this question-answer guide for choosing bath soak ingredients.

Or choose a bath soak recipe from the list below to overcome the bleak days of winter, the Danish way. Matcha, lavender, oatmeal, or rose – you’ll find hygge ideas for a homemade bath soak for every day of the week!
