How To Color Melt And Pour Soap

Elevate your bath routine with this pretty in pastel peach soap in a tin. It’s surprisingly easy to learn how to color melt and pour soap with this step-by-step tutorial.

You can color soap with a variety of ingredients with high pigment colors. For example, I’ve used ground pumpkin spice to color soap, lemon powder, french pink clay for these layered soap bars, and coffee grounds to create this soap color. But, after years of making soap at home, I’ve come to realize mica powder is the simplest method to color melt and pour soap.

Is mica powder safe for soap?

Mica powder is a natural mineral and one of the most useful and safe colorants for soap. Its ease of use is one reason why mica powder is ideal for melt and pour soap making. You’ll find it can quickly add color to soaps.

And just as appealing, mica is available in an endless variety of colors – vibrant, bold, shimmering, or pastel – it offers all. And you can mix mica powders to create custom colors to match the scent of your soap, as I share with you in this tutorial.

How much mica should I use in soap?

Like cooking spices, a little goes a long way when working with mica powder. In fact, it’s all too easy to oversaturate the color of soap when you use too much mica.

To avoid that from happening, always start small. I start with just an ⅛ teaspoon of mica powder when I’m adding color to soap. Then I thoroughly stir the color into the soap before considering if I need to add more.

Give it a try and see just how easy it is to create your own colorful soap at home with this soap recipe!

How To Make Peach Soap In A Tin

The sweet scent of just-picked peaches with notes of dewy neroli flowers is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated every time you use these homemade soap bars.

Here’s how to make six bars of peach soap in a tin with the most adorable honey bee design!

Peach Soap Ingredients:

1 silicone honey bee soap mold

12 ounces cocoa butter soap base

⅛ teaspoon yellow mica powder

¼ teaspoon peach mica powder

20 ml of natural peach and neroli nectar oil

6 gold tins

Peach Melt and Pour Soap Instructions:

Prep:

Prepare the silicone honey bee soap mold by cleaning, drying, and spritzing it with rubbing alcohol.

Set the soap mold aside and slice 12 ounces of a cocoa butter soap base on a cutting board with a soap knife into 1” cubes or slices.

Melt:

Next, scoop the soap slices into a large glass measuring cup. Place it in the microwave and melt the soap base for three 30-second intervals, stirring intermittently to avoid burning for approximately 1.5 minutes.

Scent:

Then promptly remove the melted soap base from the microwave and add 20 ml of skin-safe soap fragrance. (I used all-natural peach and neroli nectar oil from Makesy – use my code CREATEWITHKRISTY10 to save 10% off your total order.) Whisk the fragrance into the soap mixture. You can add up to 6% fragrance to your liking.

After adding the scent, carefully pour the soap into two sections of the soap mold.

Color:

Then add ⅛ teaspoon of yellow mica powder directly to the melted soap base, stirring until evenly distributed. Pour this soft pastel yellow color into two more sections of the soap mold.

Next, add ¼ teaspoon of peach mica powder to the remaining mixture, and stir until it’s evenly blended. Then pour the remaining soap mixture into the last two sections of the soap mold.

Cure:

Spritz the top of each soap bar with isopropyl alcohol to remove any air bubbles, as needed. Then let the soap cool in the mold for typically one to two hours.

Once the soap has cooled and hardened, simply pop it out of the mold and place it inside a 3 or 4 ounce gold tin for easy storage and portability.
