Is Hibiscus good for your skin?
Hibiscus contains a high antioxidant amount, powerful against free radicals – often the culprit for premature aging (source). And according to the experts at Pronounce Skincare, hibiscus is an anti-aging plant like no other. Filled with collagen-boosting properties to increase skin elasticity, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) speed up cell turn-over and firm the skin for a natural youthful boost.
How does hibiscus work in an anti-aging face mask?
This anti-aging powerhouse known as the “botox plant” is the secret ingredient for making the best anti-aging face mask! Let me show you why:
CLEANSING:
Hibiscus contains gentle, natural surfactants that act as a deep cleanser for your pores. Unlike other surfactants, it won’t leave your skin feeling dry or sensitive. And it happens to be antibacterial too (source).
TIGHTENING:
With a high vitamin C content, the hibiscus boosts collagen and tightens the skin (source).
SOOTHING:
Due to the anti-inflammatory properties of hibiscus, it can soothe the skin and aid in the repair of blemishes or other skin issues (source).
RENEWING:
As a rich source of AHAs, hibiscus dissolves dead skin cells and reveals fresh new skin underneath. And the high antioxidant levels aid in the protection from free radical damage, improving the skin’s overall appearance.
So, if there’s any plant that contains botox properties – it’s hibiscus! Are you ready to tighten, lift, and renew your skin?

How to Apply a Hibiscus Homemade Face Mask
Get the most out of your homemade face mask by following these simple steps:
1. The first step is to cleanse your skin and preferably remove any eye makeup. Have you tried my DIY eye makeup remover pads?
2. This second step is optional, but exfoliating your face first can really help to reveal younger-looking skin. I find a Konjac sponge works great for a quick gentle exfoliation. Find one for your skin type here.
3. After these first steps, your skin is prepped and ready for a face mask! Using clean hands or a beauty spatula, apply your homemade face mask in a thin layer to the skin, avoiding the eye area. You can apply it to your upper neck area and decolletage too…
4. Leave the mask on for about 15 minutes. During that time, rehydrate the mask by spritzing with a homemade hydrosol or face mist. Or if you’re really up for some self-care, steam your face mask with a face steam at home. (I actually do all three!) No matter how you choose to rehydrate your face mask, the key is to keep it working longer without completely drying.
5. Remove the face mask before it dries by splashing your face in warm water to soften the clay. Then gently rinse with a super soft bamboo washcloth and pat dry. (Avoid scrubbing the mask off – for any stubborn areas, use a gentle face toner to remove.)
6. To finish, apply a moisturizer a few drops of rosehip seed oil will due or try my fan favorite aloe vera face cream recipe.
What will your skin feel like after using a hibiscus face mask?
This homemade anti-aging face mask makes my skin feel and look beautiful not just the first time but each time I have used it! I literally feel younger after using it – every time. My skin is noticeably firmer, smoother, and even my neckline is tighter. The rich pink color of the mask is only a bonus to all of the anti-aging abilities of hibiscus!
I like to apply this face mask recipe twice a month to help prevent the signs of aging. But you can use it once a week if you have mature skin or are itching closer to the 40s than I am.
