Easy Crystal Candle Snap Bars DIY Tutorial

Create this crystal candle snap bars DIY with easy-to-follow steps and tips for making this new candle idea!

If you know me, then you know I’m always on the hunt for a new candle project. After learning how to make snap bars last fall, I’ve been brimming with so many ideas for these trending candles.

I’m happy to share this new candle idea with you! I could say I made it with a bit of luck, because the crystals I added are known as the stone of opportunity, believed to bring luck and abundance.

If you guessed green aventurine, you’re right! This crystal is popular for attracting good luck and prosperity. I love it for its vibrant blue-green color, symbolizing the lushness of nature representing harmony and balance.

Is it OK to put crystals in candles? Yes, crystals do not oppose a problem for candles. They are tolerant of heat and don’t cause issues with candle wax or wicks.

You can safely add about any type of crystal to candles. I would just steer away from thin, glass-like chips, that could crack with too much heat.

How Do You Use A Snap Bar?

Using a snap bar is nearly identical to using a wax melt. The key is using the correct amount or risk hot wax melting everywhere!

How To Use Snap Bars:

  • Snap off one section from the candle snap bar, just like snapping off a piece of chocolate from a chocolate bar.
  • Place the little piece of the snap bar in an electric or tea light warmer to melt.
  • The scent will fill the area as the little bar melts.
  • Extinguish the tea light with a wick dipper or turn off the warmer and continue enjoying it as the wax solidifies again.
  • Reuse the same piece many times over until the scent disappears. Then, remove it from the warmer and snap off a new piece to enjoy.

How long does a snap bar last?

Well, that all depends on how you use it. Follow the steps above and your snap bars will last 10 hours per piece. There are five pieces per bar, so that’s 50 hours of scent in a snap bar!

I choose the nourishing scent of Natural Nourishing Nectar & Aloe Leaf oil. It contains many of my favorite scents with top notes of juicy pear and citrus, a middle note of aloe, and a base of vanilla bean.

It’s a refreshing aroma perfect for candle melts!

How much wax does a snap bar hold?

How much wax a snap bar will hold, obviously will depend on the snap bar mold you use. The snap bar mold I use contains six sections to make six candle snap bars.

Each section holds 1.75 ounces of wax. To make 3 bars, you’ll need about 5 ounces of wax. To make all six, you’ll need about ten ounces.

You’ll see I share the exact measurements in the instructions below, but if you’re using a different snap bar mold, you can use my candle wax calculator. It’s easy to figure out how much wax a snap bar needs with it!

One thing is sure: These DIY candle snap bars are a great value for your money, at less than a pound of candle wax!

What’s the best wax to make snap bars?

In my experience, these organic soy wax beads are a hassle-free way to make snap bars. They melt perfectly in the microwave and require minimal equipment – which is ideal for candle snap bars.

My candle wax guide covers the Pros and Cons of all candle wax types. You can also read this article that dives deep into choosing a wax for each candle type; if you’d like to try something else.

How To Make Crystal Candle Snap Bars

  1. Sprinkle 1 to 2 tablespoons of green aventurine tumbled stones across your snap bar mold filling each section with a variety of stones.
  2. Then, place a large glass liquid measuring cup on a digital scale. Tap to tare the weight and measure 10 ounces of soy wax beads
  3. Use a no-touch infrared thermometer to monitor the heat of the wax, not letting it rise above 160 degrees. Place the wax filled measuring cup inside the microwave. Microwave for four to six intervals at 45 seconds. Stir the wax in between heating with a silicone spatula
  4. Once the wax has melted, I prefer to allow it to cool to 150°F before adding the natural nectar & aloe leaf oil.
  5. Thoroughly incorporate the oil into the wax by slowly stirring for a constant 2 minutes.
  6. Then, carefully pour the scented wax into each section of the snap bar mold.
  7. It’s best to wait 24 hours before popping out each snap bar when including crystals and working with the large size of snap bars, compared to regular wax melts.
