Herbal Cedar Sachets DIY Natural Moth Repellant

Create herbal cedar sachets for DIY natural moth repellant for clothes and more with this easy tutorial and step-by-step video.

I donโ€™t know about you, but I adore seasonal living. When others constantly complain about the weather changes, I do my best to embrace them.

From replenishing oatmeal baths in the winter to gardenerโ€™s hand scrubs in spring, citronella candles in summer, and pumpkin spice crafts in autumn, thereโ€™s something to be enjoyed each season.

But, with all these weather changes comes the need to store clothing we wonโ€™t use for months. When we tuck away our sundresses and sarong wraps, or wool mittens and scarves – we should do so with care.

Because moths love to lay their eggs on natural fibers or unwashed linens that contain pet dander or food stains. So that their larvae have plenty to feast on.

YUCK!

Maybe youโ€™ve tried modern mothballs and hated the smell. But did you know mothballs are made of paradichlorobenzene and naphthalene, chemicals that gradually become gas when exposed to air? And they come with warnings not to use them outdoors because they will contaminate plants, soil, and water, harming wildlife!

Well, I have to agree with the Gardenista – โ€œIf mothballs arenโ€™t safe for Mother Nature, โ€ฆ theyโ€™re not safe for me.โ€

Luckily, Mother Nature gave us what we need with herbs that naturally repel moths! Call them herbal sachets, potpourri sachets, or sachet bags; these homemade sachets are essentially the same. So whether youโ€™re looking for a natural moth repellant for clothes or a linen closet air freshener they double as both.

And they are a breeze to make! You can swap mothballs for a DIY natural moth repellant when you make herbal cedar sachets.

How Do Herbal Cedar Sachets Work?

Cedar has been used for thousands of years as a moth repellant. Cedar shipping crates and boxes, cedarwood chests, and cedar panels in closets were all created to deter pests.

Much like plants that repel mosquitoes, certain smells mask the scent of natural fibers moths like to eat and overpower them with scents they hate. This helps control existing moths giving them reason to leave and steers moths from laying their eggs on your linens.
