Smudge Stick Supplies:

  • 8 to 10 fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Thin cotton or hemp string
  • Scissors

How To Make A Rosemary Smudge Stick:

1. Select Fresh Rosemary from Your Herb Garden:

Choose healthy rosemary sprigs with vibrant green leaves from your garden. Opt for stems that are long and sturdy for easy handling.

2. Preparing and Bundling the Rosemary Stems:

Gather a small bundle of rosemary sprigs, approximately 8-10 stems. Arrange the rosemary sprigs parallel to each other, with the leafy ends aligned. Then trim any excess leaves from the bottom half of the stems if you prefer a clean and neat bundle.

3. Adding Other Herbs for Enhanced Aromatherapy (Optional):

To enhance the aroma and benefits of your smudge stick, consider adding other fresh or dried herbs and botanicals. Lavender, sage, or thyme can complement the rosemary’s fragrance and add a layer of purification or relaxation.

4. Wrapping and Drying Your Rosemary Smudge Stick:

Now, gather your rosemary sprigs and optional addons into a bunch. Secure the bundle by tightly wrapping a cotton or hemp string around the stems, starting from the bottom and working your way to the top.

Leave a length of string at the end to use as a hanger for drying. And hang your rosemary smudge stick upside down in a dry, well-ventilated area. Allow it to air dry completely for about 1 to 2 weeks until the stems are crisp and the bundle retains its shape.
