Why Double Wick?
Double wick candles can certainly amplify the feeling of coziness, but theyโre not just about bliss. A second wick is added for many reasons to solve candle problems and create a better candle when needed.
Opting for double wicks can result in a cleaner, smoother, even burn that enhances the scent throw and increases the life of the candle!

When To Double
Even Burn
At certain widths, a 2nd wick is needed for an even burn across the entire surface of the candle.
Avoid Tunneling
Without sufficient heat, you risk a tunnel, where the wax melts only around the wick. Whereas two wicks can provide a balanced melt from edge to edge, avoiding tunneling.
Larger Scent Throw
When youโve got a large space to fill you need a larger scent throw. This generally requires a larger candle. However, you can gain a larger scent throw by using double wicks.
Double wick candles spread scent molecules further and faster than a single wick. So, you can immerse yourself in the warmth of almond blossom, complemented by creamy milk and sweet vanilla tonka bean, in no time with the all-natural ISO 9235 certified fragrance I used to make this double wick candle!
Prevent Soot
Using a single wick in a large candle can cause it to burn intensely, often sparking. This can lead to soot on the inside of a candle container or smoke in the air.
Deter Mushrooming
Wick mushrooms are often caused by using a wick that is too large for a candle. By distributing the heat between two smaller wicks it can be deterred.
Opting for double wicks can result in a cleaner, smoother, even burn that enhances the scent throw and increases the life of the candle!

How do you add a second wick to a candle?
Candlewick placement is key when youโre working with multiple wicks! Each should be evenly placed halfway between the center and edge of your container.
I use a convenient double wick centering tool that makes placement entirely simple! I show how to use this tool in the video for evenly placing wicks.
It worked easily with the round candle tin I used. (I love the fact that these tins are colored both inside and out!)
